The maritime specific servi-ces and packages based on the AuroraGlobal initiative’s infrastructure and capabilities will be sold under the AuroraMaritime name.
New ‘Pharostar Plus’ services have been launched as part of AuroraMaritime and are available from Airbus’ Turkish service provider Ozsay Uydu Iletisim A.S. Pharostar Plus is a Ku-band service with throughput comparable to forthcoming next generation services (Inmarsat Global Xpress, Intelsat EpicNG) but available now using existing antennas on board, which keeps costs down for the shipowner whilst allowing them access to faster connectivity.
Shipping companies can double their VSAT speed or allowance plan, with unlimited L-band back up, to better accommodate their communication needs and budgets. High speed broadband is therefore available today. Ship owners have the option to upgrade to future Ka- and Ku-band
services without having to invest in new VSAT antenna systems for future High-Throughput Satellites (HTS). In line with its technology-agnostic approach, Airbus Defence and Space is a strategic distribution partner for Inmarsat’s Global Xpress Ka-band services and has just signed an alliance agreement with Intelsat enhancing its Ku-band network and bridging customers to the EpicNG platform.
“Our state-of-the-art VSAT service offers the largest coverage and cost-effective high-speed broadband available today on the market,” says Tore Morten Olsen, Head of Maritime Satcom activities at Airbus Defence and Space. “Offering twice as much value for money, it allows maritime users to embrace more efficient IT applications in their daily operations, while also improving crew connectivity and keeping an eye on the cost of their communications.”
AuroraMaritime services also come with XChange v3, the latest evolution of Airbus’ XChange communications platform, which further improves the flow of operational data between ship and shore through sophisticated voice and connectivity service management.
XChange is an all-in-one solution to manage communications services in an easy and intuitive way. It gives more control with less operational overhead while on board administrative tasks can also be out-sourced to onshore offices. It makes VSAT voice and data management even more intuitive, with improved features including an ability to flexibly prioritise traffic, in order to give corporate traffic priority over crew traffic, thereby securing delivery of critical data.
In Turkey, all Airbus and AuroraMaritime satcoms services are available through Ozsay Uydu Iletisim A.S., a long time Airbus service provider partner. “VSAT technology is hugely important in the merchant shipping sector as it enables vessels and fleets to operate much more efficiently, which in turn can save significant amounts of money. Also with the levels of bandwidth available on VSAT, shipowners can ensure that crews have excellent communications facilities so that they can contact friends and family when they are at sea. This helps to keep crews happy and attract new skilled personnel. AuroraMaritime offers all of these benefits today, with excellent flexibility for the future,” adds Onder Kalkavan, CEO Ozsay Uydu Iletisim A.S.
