Floating power hub with CO2 capture and storage to be developed in EU partnership

MDN MEDIA

SBM Offshore, a Dutch provider of floating offshore facilities, and Ocean-Power, a Norwegian developer of energy solutions, have signed a partnership agreement to collaborate on a floating power generation center with CO2 capture and storage

By signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the partners aim to assess the technical feasibility and commercial readiness to collaborate on the offshore power generation concept exclusively for the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) and the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).

The hub is envisioned as a bi-directional transmission structure to balance wind power capacity while powering offshore assets via subsea cables and electrifying the continental shelf with minimal impact on the national grid.

It will apply Ocean-Power’s Blue Power Hub concept, which uses offshore gas turbines coupled with carbon capture and storage to generate electricity.

SBM said combining its offshore experience with Ocean Power?s technical concept development opens doors for potential joint business development initiatives in this area.
