State Grid Corporation of China launched Qifan-19, its largest submarine cable construction ship

Qifan-19, independently developed by State Grid Corporation of China for Guojiao No.1 Brand has a cable-carrying capacity of 10,000 tons and a displacement of 24,000 tons.

It can carry various types of cables

The vessel that can lay and overhaul submarine cables in deep and open seas can be loaded with a 75 kilometer three-core AC 220 kV submarine cable and 130 kilometer single-core DC 300 kV submarine cable as well as a 2,000 kilometer communication optical cable.

State Grid Corporation said:

It employs the world’s most advanced dynamic positioning technology

The first catenary cable laying system in China independently developed by State Grid Corporation of China employs the world’s most advanced dynamic positioning technology, which can resist the attack of Class-9 wind and the impact of 4-throttle seawater, ensuring the laying of cables with constant tension and speed. The laying accuracy can be up to 0.5m.

Fuel efficiency is increased, whereas carbon emission is decreased

The vessel that is using electric propulsion technology is equipped with a special power distribution station, which transforms the electric energy generated by the diesel generator into DC electric energy. Hence, the fuel efficiency of diesel generator improves 25 percent and the carbon emission is reduced 20 percent.

Longitudinal laying method expanded the operation range

In the construction of the vessel that features a helicopter landing platform, longitudinal laying method was used, which expanded the operation range by 40 percent.
