ABS examines the challenges ahead for marine and offshore industries

Classification and technical services provider ABS held a seminar last month in Istanbul on the outlook for shipping, shipbuilding and offshore industries. The event saw experts analyze a range of economic and technical issues faced by the sector.

The seminar addressed how the economic issues faced by maritime combined with the threat posed by the ever-increasing connectivity of vessels has spurred the need for innovative solutions to these challenges, with a range of advanced engineering and technological solutions to optimize maintenance programs, tighten cybersecurity and improve enterprise asset management.

ABS Turkey, Georgia & the Caspian Region Manager Seyfettin Tatlı highlighted the challenges and options companies in the marine space are facing. Issues for offshore operators were examined by Antony Bessis, ABS Senior Surveyor, Offshore Solutions. Pantelis Skinitis, ABS Business Development, updated the audience on ABS developments in cyber data and digital technologies.

ABS is deploying a new, maritime specific method for calculating cyber risk across individual assets or entire fleets; and also introducing a range of solutions for optimizing asset maintenance programs that span the entire asset lifecycle; which translates to more agile, reliable, and ultimately safer ways of attaining operational excellence.
