Turkey growing rapidly

MDN İstanbul

How do you think the superyacht sector in Turkey performed in 2013?*
Ongoing crises in countries like Greece, Spain and Portugal have led yacht production orders to Turkey. By the end of 2013, Turkey was considered to be well on its way to being one of the industry’s leading players.

What are your predictions for 2014?
Looking at various industry analyses and performances in numbers, the marina sector shrunk globally last year but increased in Turkey – and there are many indications that this growth will continue in 2014. New investments to meet the transport, maritime affairs and communications ministry’s target of $10 billion marine sector revenue for 2023 are under way. In 2014, the occupancy rate in Turkey is expected to be high. our country has an approximate four per cent share of the Mediterranean market, but this seems to have increased, with our coastal routes appealing to the upper-income group. The exis-tence of marinas close to airports with international flight connections has further stengthened Turkey’s position. All in all, the Turkish superyacht sector has a brilliant future, especially considering the improving quality standards and the ready supply of labour.
Which country do you view as your biggest competitor?
I would count Sardinia, Majorca and Barcelona amongst the competition we currently face.

Why should owners choose to work with professionals within your sector from Turkey above all others?
Turkey is an emerging market and our megayacht sector is growing rapidly. Yacht agencies are becoming increasingly professional due to the presence of new marinas and ongoing investment. The advantages of our location, climate, hospitality, new marinas with popular gourmet restaurants and luxurious shops, blue cruise routes, proximity to the Greek islands, negotiable marina prices and duty-free/tax-free fuel for both private and commercial yachts make Turkey an ideal destination for both owners and visitors. The government is also working on a project for 2014 to clear taxes and  to simplify all the formalities for foreign-flagged yachts.
