Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Ltd. announced on 9 August a multi-year contract valued at approximately $30 million with an undisclosed Asian country. The deal will provide maintenance support for various operational systems in the nation’s navy.
Under the agreement, Rafael will cover maintenance for the navy’s Typhoon and Mini- Typhoon remotely controlled naval weapon stations, Naval Spike ER and NLOS missile systems, EO surveillance platforms, and EW Integrated Decoy Systems (IDS).
Ran Tavor, Vice President and Head of Rafael’s Naval Warfare Systems directorate, mentioned that this contract aligns with Rafael’s broader strategy to bolster maintenance and customer support activities worldwide. He emphasized that collaborations like this enrich mutual knowledge, paving the way for enhanced capabilities.
Notably, the Typhoon family, known for its reliability and cost-effectiveness, is a stabilised, remote-controlled naval gun system. Earlier this year, the Philippine navy integrated the Typhoon Mk30-c and mini-Typhoon RCWS as part of Rafael’s combat suite on FAIC-M / Shaldag MK5 vessels.
The Spike ER and NLOS are advanced electro-optically guided missiles known for their precision. With effective ranges at sea of up to 10 and 32 km respectively, their integration, especially with Rafael’s new 6th Generation Naval Spike NLOS missile, boosts naval combat capabilities. In a related note, Poland’s Defence Ministry recently announced a $100 million purchase from Rafael’s Spike series.
Moreover, the IDS is an inclusive defense setup comprising a controller, launchers, and programmable decoys. Rafael also inked a deal in March 2023 with the Israeli Ministry of Defence for support services for the Israeli Navy’s Typhoon naval weapon stations.
